Chapter (Month) Seven: A Loveable Feast

green eyes. Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa.

This month's video inspired by a quote that sums up this blog and pretty much everything else I've been working on these last four years of my tenure as Mother. (Archer turns four in three weeks omg.)

"I never had to choose a subject - my subject rather chose me." -Ernest Hemingway

April has been a very difficult month for me and pretty much every person I love. And yet combing through these photos? I'd never know it. So much happiness my children bring. Truly I'd be lost without them. And sad. And bored. And still drunk from last night.

Happy lucky, seven, Fable: my loveable little feast.

Best big brother, cutest chubby legs award.

It's so great to see Archer be so involved with his little sister Fable!

I, for one, would love to hear about how you and Hal matured to recognize/validate each other. I also have no idea how I ended up in a happy marriage/healthy family situation. I'm grateful for it every day.

Thanks again for your blogs and book; you express yourself beautifully.

Cole and I just watched this movie right after we had been talking about how different things are going to be when the baby comes. And wow! did this get some emotions going. So amazing. All of this.

Wow, I didn't believe there were other girls as lovely as mine but that Fable - WOW! I really want to squeeze those baby thighs. And the eyes! The sweet big brother! I've said it before, but Fable is fabulous.

So beautiful. My favourite photo is the one where Archer is holding the bottle and she's in the back right corner with a look on her face, "HEY, that's MINE!".
Have a great day Bec, your kids are beautiful.

What a beautiful baby! That expression of wide-eyed puzzlement as she seems to be forming an opinion about ice cream is adorable.

Stinkin cute kids and seriously, could your family be any cuter???

I literally BURST into tears and began SOBBING at those two videos of Archer and Fable. The love and adoration just made me into a puddle. In fact, I may still be crying now. I think I have PMS.

Heather | 9:06 PM

I'm not a terribly religious person, but you are all so blessed to have each other. Your children are beautiful, happy and so well loved, and I just.. had to let you know that watching Archer and Fable together makes me cry the sweetest kind of tears.

I'm 25, and wanted to say thank you for making motherhood look less scary and far more worth it. Not having any babies yet, but makes me look forward to it in the next few years. I wish for nothing but the best for you all.

Sara | 7:13 AM

I hope that when I have kids they are as sweet and beautiful and kind to each other as yours are.

In coral and gray
In submarine chambers
One day
It swam for the light
The jewels that lit
The cities that float there
Cities in circles drawn perfect, complete
Holding the secrets on my street
My street, my street

So come in and play
The song of the siren
It's commonplace
You hear the voice rise
In one wave
And crash on your doorstep
Making the circle here perfect, complete
These are the fables on my street

Ten thousand dancing girls
Kicking cans 'cross the sky
No reason why
Why ask to pay yourself
For the call of the wild
You found this child
So raise him

And wind your back
Come back to the river
The currents speed by
And hope the men fear
The hammer comes down
So hard on the evening
Cracking the dawn of your
Days are repeat
These are fables on my street
My street, my street

Heaven shook Hell
And down from its pockets
The ring in your bell
It fell through your hands
Hang at your feet
The doors that won't open
Marking the journey of our friends complete
These are the fables of my street
My street

My street, my street
Lay down in glory, you're not alone

My street, my street
Lay down in glory, you're not alone
-These Are The Fables

I'm with you. April sucked.

GIRL'S GONE CHILD | 1:15 PM

I love that. New Pornographers -- Hm... Might have to use that one for next month.

Amy | 3:07 PM

Just delicious. My baby girl is going to be 8 months old on Mother's Day. She is growing up so fast that it breaks my heart yet I am so happy for her every little accomplishment. Your kids are beautiful.

Anonymous | 4:20 PM

that just warmed my soul.

Erin | 5:33 PM

Watching Archer nuzzle Fable and get her baby kisses just melted my entire being. I think he is the best big brother, too. Their eyes are amazing, so dark and deep. Our babies are the same age, by the way. My Camper just turned 7 months. I think this is my favorite month so far.

Anonymous | 5:34 PM

Got teary when he was feeding her with the bottle. So sweet! Best brother ever!

GIRL'S GONE CHILD | 6:20 PM

Archer feeding Fable kills me every time. Archer is such a natural caretaker. So loving and gentle with her. It blows my mind.

Anonymous | 10:01 PM

you said april has been a really hard month for you... would love to hear what you struggle with. love all the happy posts about your family but you are such a wonderful writer and seem so intelligent, it would be nice to hear how you handle life's hard times as well as the good. love your site.

good luck

GIRL'S GONE CHILD | 11:50 PM

Anon 10:01 - I like to think I'm pretty candid about the tough stuff as well as the lovely. I only blog retrospectively of hardship because it would be unfair to the people involved if I were blogging about them. This is why I never blogged about mine and Hal's difficulties until we had mended our marriage. Same goes for everyone and everything else.

I think you'll find, though, if you go back in the archives that there are plenty of true stories about falling skies and steep hills and if you'll stick around, I can promise you there will be many more... Because such is life.

Thank you so much for reading.

xx

Sarah @ BecomingSarah.com | 11:05 AM

I watched this the other night but didn't have a chance to comment. SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL! I can't believe how sweet these films are and how fast she's growing.

Farah | 12:19 PM

wow...your baby girl is absolutely beautiful!

anon 10:01 | 3:39 PM

wow, thanks for the reply. i will definitely stick around... i love reading your blog! i didn't mean to sound like i wanted to hear about any and all misery you might have in your life - it was more because i sometimes struggle w/motherhood, wifehood, friendshiphood, depressionhood everything in the hood and wondered how you handled the hard times. on the flip side i love reading about how much you adore your husband and children and that inspires me to pull myself up when i'm not doing good and be a kind wife and a good mom.
on a completely different subject, where is bitemycookie? i can't get to her blog anymore. does she have a new site? i hope she's doing ok, she seemed down in her last few blogs. i loved reading about the 2 of you, your friendship seemed so unique and authentic. xoxo

Archer = bestest big brother ever.

Fable = supercute.

How can you stand it without your heart bursting into a bazillion smithereens every time she giggles? Seriously ...

My Bottle's Up! | 4:55 PM

she's getting more and more beautiful... which, i didn't know was possible.

her eskimo kisses with archer are my favorite... well, no, archer feeding her while in his underpants is my favorite... well, no...

it's all my favorite. :)

indigopyro | 6:06 PM

Your children are so beautiful -- and the videos you put together are wonderful. I especially love your taste in music. It would be great to see a weekly playlist from your personal music library as a regular feature on your site.

katie d | 6:17 PM

Thank you so much for this. Being five months pregnant, I was having an "oh holy fuck-how am I going to do this with two" kind of day. I watched this video and am so happy that we're giving our son the gift of being a big brother.

Jackie | 7:26 PM

Happy 7 month birthday, you adorable little peanut, you!

Rebecca, I'm sad to say that I'm not able to watch your videos, so I only get to appreciate the written part of your posts. We live on a farm out in the boonies and are stuck with slow dial-up...it once took me 2hrs to load a 5min clip. I love living in the country, but this is one of the few things I would change! If you'd like to hear a bit more about my life out here, I talk about the farm in my blog - www.theothersideofthefence-jackie@blogspot.com

Thilie | 11:48 PM

they grow so fast, right?? my baby is 9 months already.. OMG!! your boy taking care of little fable and playing with her.. it is so cute, I think it made me ovulate :D oh, and BTW she totally has your eyes!!
Happy 7 months!!
