TOTW: Domestic Vacations by Julie Blackmon

Image-2
Blackmon's photographs are inspired by her experience of growing up in a large family, her current role as both mother and photographer, and the timelessness of family dynamics. As the oldest of nine children and mother to three, Blackmon uses her own family members and household to "move beyond the documentary to explore the fantastic elements of our everyday lives." - via Wikipedia

Wow, I love the slightly gothic vibe that is in these. I was surprised to see my hometown's newspaper featured in the photo on the front porch- sure enough, she is also from Springfield, MO!
It is always cool to see something or someone you can be proud of coming out of MO, especially in light of the Akin-focused news that surely is humiliating most of us here in the midwest. Sheesh.
Ms. Blackmon has a new fan!

I thought it was hilarious that I felt so convicted about reducing sugar in my diet and the first picture was a candy orgy ;)

Love the girl on the couch looking unimpressed with the little dog. The portrait above is classic...
