Gone... Childstyle w/ HGTV.com

P1011541
Once upon a time, I got the chance to chat with friend and fellow blogger, Katie Granju about a possible collaboration with HGTV.com. As a fan of the network (House Hunters International, hello), I was thrilled to potentially join forces, but after several days trying to come up with a collaborative concept, decided it would be best to hold off. At the time, I felt I had little to bring to the table creatively. We agreed to reconnect down the line if/when it made sense for us to do so. It wasn't until a few months ago that (BOOM!) the timing became right. I had spent a good part of my pregnancy obsessed with Househunters International and with our imminent move, a partnership seemed organic, even fated. Not to mention (aha!) this time I actually had an idea. Something I was genuinely excited about: nursery design.

For months I'd spent countless nights searching the web for video series on nursery decor and had yet to find anything that excited me. Everything seemed so cookie cutter perfect... ripped from the pages of Pottery Barn catalogs. Pink for girls and blue for boys, meaningless accessories to match doldrum decor. How could there be 789792739843789 design shows centered around room makeovers (Hal worked on Deserving Design for a season) and not a single show devoted to featuring unique nurseries and children's rooms? Rooms that were beautiful, practical and attainable for the style-conscious parent? What was that about?)

I pitched my idea to pursue a web series on nursery design and (success!) the ladies at HGTV totally dug it. Three months later, I'm excited to announce our first collaboration together: "Childstyle with Rebecca Woolf", a web series I'll be creating with HGTV.com featuring inspired spaces for babies and children.

We're just starting to break ground as a team so there's nothing to show you guys quite yet besides this little introductory post on HGTV.com but I will absolutely be sharing more news as I have it. In the meantime, I am beyond thrilled and so appreciative of the support I've already received from so many of you, so thank you. Thank you!

YES! Thank you thank you thank you! I have mentally tagged your babies' crib bedding in my head as the bedding that all other bedding will be measured against! I have even contemplated learning to sew because I'm so convinced I'll never be able to buy anything that beautiful. I cannot wait to see what you come up with.
You're going to save a lot of babies from lame rooms! :)

can't wait to see what you come up with and get inspired!!

I am so excited for you, and will definitely be following along--especially since I am creating a new room for Zinashi (along with a bit of kid friendly living room space) in our new place in San Francisco.

(Which, PS--if you need any new subjects for your series, we volunteer. One of us is super duper cute.)

domestiCate | 7:12 PM

Soooo exciting! Congrats! I'm working on a post about our little girl's unconventional nursery. I'll share when I get it up.

Amanda | 7:15 PM

Yay! Congrats!

I'm actually still looking for records with the name "Jack" in the cover art for my three year-old's bedroom since you had mentioned it in a previous post. As a music lover and a decor lover, I thought it was a genius idea!

Liz | 7:26 PM

You are SO right about lack of awesome nursery designs. I'm almost 5 months pregnant and have yet to find anything remotely exciting. I've scoured Pinterest, design blogs, and catalogs for hours. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Got to love HGTV! I actually learned quite a bit about you from the intro since I'm a new reader to your blog- such as the connection to FLW. Now I'm dying to get a closer look at your nana's house :) Looking forward to it and congrats.

This is very good news because I am moving in two weeks and about to start preparing plans for my 3 year old son's room and my due-in-May baby girl's room. And I need help! So I hope something is up in the next few months!!!!!!

Wendy | 9:26 PM

This is amazing. But the bigger question here isn't Girls Gone Child on House Hunters looking for Steve?

Erma | 9:33 PM

I'm so excited to see you partner up with HGTV. It's the only channel I watch when it's not on Nick Jr. I can't wait!!! Bring on the Childstyle!

Life's a Potty | 9:37 PM

Wow! Life unravels in the craziest ways! Congrats!

hayley | 12:44 AM

Okay honestly...do you know how envious I am of this. I dream of being on a design show. Design Star? House Hunters International? I LIVE for these shows. Do you need an assistant? Someone with no experience in the field but loves babies and design and lots of color. Or maybe a nanny? Lots of experience in that...you go girl, and I say this is the least creepiest way possible: I want us to be kindred spirits. Nursery loving, baby gushing, international house yearning kindreds. Much love + keep us posted.

BonJoey | 12:46 AM

AWESOME!!! It'll be amazing, I can't wait to watch! :) Congrats Rebecca! So happy for you. But while I'm talking, I have a confession to make...My little boys both had pottery barn-perfect baby rooms, well the same one actually,(Sterling is still in his Sailboat blue matchy-matchy hand-me-down room from his big brother's baby days) and actually LOVED my room design choice at the time... le sigh. I'll blame it on my ignorance that anything better/cooler could be out there. And it was like 5 years ago. Anyway, I still *like* the room, sort of, but my taste has evolved and become much more "sophisticated" we'll say, thanks in large part to YOU opening up my eyes over these past few years with your fabulous eclectic urban taste and meaningful, whimsical accessorizing. So thank you Rebecca! Or maybe I should say "So thanks a lot Rebecca! Now I want a new room for my boys, damnit! haha! I kid. xo!

So excited for you Rebecca! I`ve been following your blog forever and you totally deserve this! Congrats from Germany - and go girl!

I am a Knoxville resident and big Katie G fan. So excited to be introduced to your blog and congrats on the show! I am curious about the selection process for the spaces to be featured. I designed a vintage circus themed nursery, draping the entire room in fabric, to hide the A frame roofline and to provide some additional storage behind the curtains. I also made all the bedding because, like you I was not happy with the options available in stores. I did it all on a very small budget. Here is a link to a post on my blog showing the room http://lydiaburchett.blogspot.com/2010/07/big-ideas-for-little-girls-room.html?m=0
And here is a link to a post about the garden themed room that my daughter moved into when she outgrew the nursery.

TheGirl | 5:08 AM

very excited about this. like you, i totally obsess about house hunters international (they make it look so easy to move to paris!) and I love your creative eye.

Arnebya | 6:01 AM

I am so excited for and proud of you. Since you enjoyed the girls' room design so much, and it was genuinely, absolutely breathtaking to see the results (and fun to watch as you chose items, to see how it all came together (as in, hmmmm, how's she gonna pair THAT?)) this just makes sense. Here's to collaborations that just...work. Congratulations and have as much fun as humanly possible.

That it's web-based is even better (screw you, DirecTV!).

Lia | 6:05 AM

Wow that's great! Your nursery is fantastic and so inspiring. If you want some cool ideas there is this Swedish magazine called mama (thay have an iPad app if that helps) that often showcases cool childrens rooms that are inspiring and practical. Good luck with your show!

Wow, so exciting! I cannot wait to see this series because you definitely have an eye for good, original, not-too-precious nursery design.

And also, I just want to say that it's so inspiring to see opportunities opening up for a woman who's simply following her passions in life. Love it!!!

Nikki | 6:56 AM

JBirch22 | 10:07 AM

HOLY CRAP!! This is amazing news! A million congrats :)

I've loved watching your kids' rooms come together (especially little details like your adorable dresser knobs) so I'm super excited to see what you come up with for the show!!

It's obvious that this is a perfect fit for you, since you clearly had so much fun and put much effort into designing your little ones' rooms :)

Good luck and much love to your whole clan!

Congrats amazing woman you!

mamacitamax | 10:39 AM

Ok, I don't normally comment on blogs, nor do I gush but...OMG!!! I'm so super glad you are doing this. I loved all of your ideas for the twin's room, and as a tattooed-rock n' roll-mama to be, I am thrilled for more baby design from you! Congrats on the new gig!

JT | 11:33 AM

I have been reading your blog for 3 years without commenting, but today I have to break my silence because this is too ridiculous - just YESTERDAY I said these EXACT words to my spouse: "You know what I can't believe doesn't exist on HGTV? A nursery design show." No kidding. This is awesome and I will definitely be checking it out! Congrats!

dgm | 11:50 AM

Congratulations! You deserve this! I love your design style and eye for the quirky.

Terra | 12:23 PM

Congrats! So nice to see another former Enc. girl now LA girl doing so well. My friend has a fantastic nontraditional nursery that would be perfect for your show.

nicole | 2:25 PM

Congrats!!! You are so deserving. I can't wait to see what you come up with! xo.

CONGRATS! I love HGTV...

Rachael Rossman | 11:00 PM

YES! If you ever need a portrait artist, give me a shout.

Hilary | 11:07 AM

Brilliant! I love me some HGTV and totally get you on the lack of design inspriration out there for baby/kids rooms. I'm currently in the VERY early stages of trying to design my daughter's little girl room (making the big transformation away from her "baby" room) and have been oh-so frustrated with trying finding worthwhile inspiration. Congrats! What fun! I'll stay tuned for sure.

domestiCate | 12:30 PM

I started following your blog a few months ago, and just love your voice and style. It wasn't until I just read that post on HGTV.com that I knew of your artistic lineage and connection to FLW. How cool!!
Anyway, I'm back with a link to OUR favorite nursery.

Congratulations Rebecca! That is such exciting news!!

sunkissis | 11:51 PM

Major congrats!!! It took me 5 months to put together our 110 sq foot nursery/office and I agonized over every inch of that room. As a fellow HHI obssesser, it's high time HGTV made a show for us Mommies who don't do Winnie the Pooh!!
