Gone Style: Good Wear Days (Week One)

<span class=
wearing clothes.

I have no idea how long this is going to last but per your request(s) I'm going to launch a weekly style round-up with some of my daily wears and I'm asking you, lovely ladies (and gentlemen, if you so desire!) to do the same. Why, you ask? Because, it's fun. And perhaps more importantly, because I have prizes. Fabulously chic prizes lined up for the next few weeks for those who participate in this little "my style" + "your style" = fun times.

Are you down?

Want to hear more?

Read on, fine friends! Read on!

Here's what I'm asking: sometime this week (or every day if you'd like) shoot a snap (or a few!) of a head-to-toe look that makes you feel good. I don't care if it's a unitard with leopard platform shoes (I like) or your favorite yoga pants paired with tasseled pasties. The point is to showcase your personal style. Whatever that means to YOU.

What turns you on? Wear it. Shoot it. Post it. You can upload to facebook, flickr, your blog, twitter (#goodweardays), tumblr, whateverthekidsaredoingthesedaysr etc, etc, et al. Just be sure to post your photo(s) link(s) in the comments below.

Here are some of (my) this week's wears. Please ignore my embarrassingly am poses and psychotic faux-smiles. Effortlessness does not come effortlessly to me. I do not know how to smile with my eyes. (I do know how to smile with my eyes closed however.)

This week, I'll be giving away this fantastic tote from Clava. I'd been in the market for a new computer bag for months (years?) and this one fits my MacBook, chord, notebooks and various other items with room to spare. Behold:
IMG_8507
Boots: Vince Camuto
(Navy) cigarette jean/cords: Genetic Denim
cape-ish cardigan: Beulah (sale rack find)
Layered tanks: Anthropologie/Target
Bag: Clava

Thanks for the hook-up, Clava ladies! You rock!

Want to win the Clava shoulder tote? To reiterate: Post your favorite wears of the week (via your flickr, twitter, facebook, blog, tumblr, etc etc etc), then post the link to your photo(s) in the comments below.

ED: If you have multiple wears, go ahead and post each link individually (as different comments). Each link will be counted as one contest entry (you can post as many as six links per week). I'll pick one winner late Wednesday (via random.org) to announce on next Thursday's Good Wear Days post.

You're in, yes?

Rad. Can't wait to see what you're wearing.

I love your style! I will try to take a snapshot of my daily "wears" but fear too many of those photos will contain hoodies! :-) P.S. Do you have a good website recommendation for boots? Trying to find some...

GIRL'S GONE CHILD | 8:20 AM

What kind/style of boots are you looking to purchase? And what's your budget. Zappos is a good one. Frye makes great boots.

I think the BEST boots (for he buck) are to be found at thrift stores. My favorite boots were 30$ at a thrift shop and have lasted YEARS. I know it might sound gross to buy used shoes but boots are best, me thinks broken in. Especially if you're looking for a casual pair.

Amanda | 8:50 AM

YAY! I'm doing Emery's Fashion Week, so I'll just post my outfits from that to here. I love all your wears. Especially numero dos, since I love dresses. This is exciting, I'm glad you're doing it.

Tasha | 8:52 AM

ooooh, this is awesome and will inspire me to "dress deliberately"-#1 on my list of 30 things to do while I'm 30!

(except not today...today is not a picture worthy day!)

also, I second the Frye boots recommendation AND thrift store rec...I love my boots that I got for 2 bucks at a thrift store...and I just purchased some frye boots (Jane) which are my favorite.

Megan | 9:02 AM

Yay! I'm so glad you're going to be doing Gone Style again...makes me happy. I'm doing a Preggo Style week over at my blog, talking about shopping your closet for pregnancy friendly wear. Saving $$$ = Awesomesauce. http://www.crazybananas.com/wordpress/?p=1707

Also, you might check out http://www.mcklinky.com/ for a way to link all of the entries together so we can easily peruse the other looks. Just a thought!

LOVE your looks!

As for boots, I just got the Anthropologie "Martingale" boots and I really REALLY adore them and may or may not be tempted to sleep in them. *leaning towards may*

Oh man, your outfits are WAY more fun than "button-up shirt and slacks" which is what I wear to the office, lol. I will have fun reading these however!

jaclyn | 9:34 AM

Yes! One of these babies a week, I say. This is so great, helpful, inspirational. I bet you could make a living flying around and organizing all of our, your loyal readers', closets and giving us ideas about how to mix it up with some style that doesn't include yoga pants as daily wear. Go you!

I LOVE YOU GUYS!

First off: thanks for the rec/link abuninmyoven - would love to eventually turn this into a weekly style-stream so everyone's looks can be in the same place. So THIS is very helpful!

Second: you are all SO effing cute I can't stand it. Am loving all these looks. So chic, all of you.

And thank you, Dani! I'm really excited about this! And hope to make this is a weekly section from here on out. Super appreciate your support and loveliness! Keep posting your looks, ladies! You inspire!

Trying to decide what to wear to a wedding this Saturday. This purple dress was gifted to me by a friend who used to work for Marc Jacobs:

The cuff is by my friend Gogo:

Her stuff is amazing:

Also, I can't believe I'm about to post this...

Here's another option. This is my favorite vintage dress ever. I got it at Miss Claudia's in New Orleans. The shoes are Capezio.

Umm...so I followed APW to you and was all "ooh, I like her, she's awesome, love the writing, don't quite get all of the 'she's so intimidating!' comments Meg talked about!"
Then I saw this post, and I got it. :)
You are gorgeous (hair envy!) and completely able to pull things off. Also, you have a good amount of clothes. But I'm trying to channel that bit of intimidation into motivation to go try something a little out of my comfort zone! So thanks, and I'll make it my effort to get out of the work-at-home-sweats every now and then.

Home Sweet Sarah | 1:01 PM

Girl! You have perfect timing, as I've been digging a couple of my more autumn-y outfits this week! (And, I'm always in the market for a new bag!)

Althea | 1:14 PM

I have a pair of Fryes (see my linkylink) that has lasted me for YEARS. Well worth the investment. I've had them forever and have had to re-hell them once. Although I think that is more due to my crooked walking than a design flaw on their part.

Here you go!!!

This is so awesome! Oh wait, does this mean I'm going to actually have to change out of the sweatpants I've been living in for the last week? Darn. ;)

Boston Mamas | 1:25 PM

Um, dude. Can you come to my house and style me? Seriously? Love these pix! xox Christine

Unknown | 3:07 PM

You have great, eclectic style! I especially like the first and the last outfits -- that cape/cardigan -- I die. (yes, I've started to adopt Zoe lingo when talking fashion)

I will try to post on Saturday since my hair will be freshly cut and I'm going out for a friend's birthday dinner. Thanks for the inspiration!

Melissa | 3:39 PM

Your last outfit is seriously my fav! I love me some black white and gray! And apparently exclamation points!

My style today is called "holy hell I dyed my hair green again on accident and had to chop 7 inches off". Lavender skirt, gray sweater, pewter sling backs.

http://twitter.com/#!/MelOffill/status/28064072851

Also, I love love love love when you do style stuff. Oh and the eat well stuff. Oh and just about everything else. If you ever find yourself in Austin your first drink is on me.

leaner | 5:50 PM

Sigh, so far this week I have worn this set of pajamas far too often...
http://ragininaz.blogspot.com/2010/10/gratitude-monday_18.html

I am, however, in the midst of a growing belly. Not big enough to look cute in maternity tops, just a little too big for regular ones.

BTW, I love your style. Maybe someday I'll have some style.

I love your style - and I love this idea of sharing our own personal fashion triumphs! Most of the time I am in yoga pants, but I had two "good wear days" this week: the first, an outfit I picked myself and wore monday:

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1571407958920&set=a.1571407638912.2082082.1047139714&ref=fbx_album

and the second, an outfit my 4.5 yo daughter picked for me:

Can't wait to put together some more cute outfits for next week!

Your style is so fun... also, I think you look fantastic with your hair pulled up. Just sayin!

This is kind of funny bc I just joined another linky deal where we post an outfit each week, I hope you don't mind me "double-dipping" with this outfit. I do love it! I wore it to work this week which is kind of fun since everyone else I work with wears a suit of some sort!

emily bilbrey | 7:12 PM

awesome, lady! loving your outfits - i'm a huge fan of mixing layers & patterns. and you can NEVER go wrong with a good pair of boots!

can i give you my tip for a natural smile in photos? ask your photographer to say "NOW" or count down to when they're going to snap. while you're waiting, look away from the camera & keep your face blank. then as the picture snaps, look up at the camera and smile like you're laughing. if you don't try and hold the smile, it will look MUCH better. swears! ;D

my style post is *technically* from last week, but i'm guessing you'll let it slide since you're a nice person and junk. heh.

Hello! De-lurking yet again to post that I just viewed your "Momversation" about blogging about your family vs. privacy vs. making a living.

In reading the dreaded "Mommy and Daddy Blogs," I think what's key is the AGE of the kids relative to my kid. As in, since my kid just turned 5 I am not reading any newborn blogs, and since there will be no more Archer I won't be reading yours either. (I'm kidding! I think it's a super-amazing very smart thing for you to leave Archer to his own stories.)

The good news is perhaps you CAN transition this blog from all about your family to a lifestyle/fashion/cooking/stuff site.

Sooner or later it's going to have to. I adore your writing and don't want to lose your voice in my life. I'm in NYC and my husband's on tour (in a dumb rock band) so you've been quite the resource all these years.

Please keep it up.
