per usual, Archer was right

"I can see myself being surrounded by sisters," he said.

Doctor is 92% sure he's right.

As someone who used to be petrified by the notion of ever having a daughter, I have to laugh. And then cry. And laugh again. I'm going to have three beautiful, strong, amazing daughters. Three daughters and a sage for a son who will guide and protect them as he does me (and everyone else).

Once again, good things happen in threes. Wonderful things beyond, beyond, beyond.

Anonymous | 12:16 PM

Yes, wonderful things DO come in threes! And, yes, Archer is wise beyond his years... plus my years plus your years. He's amazing. You are very lucky.

Archer is the best big brother!!

The girls will have amazing dresses from their big sister!!

Congratulations!

Kristen | 12:24 PM

Congrats!!!! So exciting! Are they identical? I thought you knew they were fraternal for some reason but the "membrane separating the babies" thing has me confused.

shylobisnett | 12:24 PM

You can still name them Entropy and Enthalpy because those are TOTALLY girl names.

Loukia | 12:24 PM

Aw, congrats to you. Happy, wonderful news. Archer will be the best big brother ever!

Nanette | 12:25 PM

Girls are great...and a bit loud in a screechy/squealy kind of a way. congratulations!

GIRL'S GONE CHILD | 12:27 PM

Thank you!!! We won't know if they're identical until they're born (they're in separate sacs, divided by a thick membrane which is AWESOME but that doesn't mean they can't still be identical.) We shall see!

Unknown | 12:27 PM

Yay for girls! Archer is such a wise soul. I should've voted with him, but I picked one of each. I'm having a girl too, so I feel a kinship! Just one, but you know...

We Call This Life | 12:28 PM

wow, I love how insightful Archer is... and already with such senses--being surrounded with so many girls-well, he sure will have a better understanding (if he doesn't already) than most fellas!

Congratulations to you and your family--two girls--yes, wonderful things to come!!!

The Dalai Mama | 12:29 PM

writermom | 12:36 PM

So wonderful, many congratulations! I have two girls and my oldest is a boy. He also has "the knowing" about him. He maintained all along that our last baby would be a girl (when us silly grownups thought otherwise), and he was right. What a beautiful family you have! Are you going to reveal your names?

Sydney | 12:38 PM

CONGRATULATIONS!

I thought one of each but you didn't name him Archer Sage for nothing!

So thrilled for you and your entire family.

And who knows? They could be identical!

Robyn | 12:38 PM

Evi | 12:41 PM

Excellent news! Congratulations!

molly | 12:43 PM

Congratulations!!! I have three sisters. I'm not sure how my parents survived four girls (especially when we all went through puberty at the same time) but I know that they still feel super blessed.

Connie | 12:43 PM

Squeeeeeeee!!!!!

Oh my goodness. Yay Girls! Go Archer!

(Are you just overflowing with girl names?!) Hooray!

Have a wonderful weekend.

(I just had the thought of Fable singing her 'baby baby baby' song like the video clip you shared with us. It's just too much sweetness. What a great big sissa Fable is going to be!)

Roxanna (Miguelina) | 12:46 PM

Congratulations! That's amazing! I have three boys if your girls are ever interested ;)

Meghan | 12:49 PM

So exciting! Congratulations!

lonek8 | 12:53 PM

yay! My husband always thought he'd end up with 3 girls (we have 2 and 1 boy right now), so he is convinced that if I ever get pregnant again it will be a girl for sure, even though I kind of want a boy. yay for having two more little girls to wear all of Fable's adorable dresses! Good call, Archer!

Grandma Susan will be picking up those knitting needles and creating all sorts of clothing. I can hear the click/click/click now.

robin | 1:28 PM

Yay!! Congratulations! I guessed 2 girls, and I am NEVER right! But Archer seems so wise, I had to go with his pick. Your girls (and boy) are lucky to have you!

The Wh0le Story | 1:28 PM

Ah, I love the idea of your brilliant son as the lone brother taking care of his amazing sisters! Congrats, congrats, congrats!!

Anonymous | 1:29 PM

I am wondering, if you have names picked out for same gender twins already, how do you decide which one gets which name?

Archer is going to make the best brother to three girls! And I can't be the only one hoping you have more kids after this, hehe!

Amy | 1:30 PM

Wonderful, wonderful news! Your daughters are so lucky that they have such an awesome brother!

Jamie Elizabeth | 1:31 PM

One boy and three girls is my dream! I'm not sure if my husband shares the dream- we're still working on getting him there. You're an awesome Mama and I'm so excited to follow along on your journey. Amazing, Rebecca!

Emily | 1:38 PM

Girls girls girls! So exciting. Congratulations!

jive turkey | 1:39 PM

Amazing! Congratulations! How very sweet :)

Amber | 1:41 PM

I voted with Archer too! You don't want to bet against that one.

Congratulations!

Pati | 1:43 PM

Awesome!! I guessed right! Okay so I am one of five girls in my family...also a twin!...no brothers! Yaaaa have fun! Archer will be such an awesome big brother, and the voice of reason, I am sure, to three little princesses <3

Wonderful news!

oh, jenny mae | 2:15 PM

i'm so excited for you! 3 girls and 1 boy is fantastic! i love mine!

LLH | 2:34 PM

I personally am disappointed by the lack of turkey sandwiches.

L.L. | 2:41 PM

That sono image of the Fable-look-a-like is amazing! I never got such a great frontal shot with my first, how lucky! A friend of mine just had her baby last week and Dr said it was a 90% girl based on two different ultrasounds and then at 32 weeks, it was "no wait, its definitely a boy!" I had never heard of boys being mistaken for girls before, thought it was just girls mistaken for boys because of umbilical cords masquerading as penises, but it can happen!

Valeta | 2:53 PM

Congrats!

I wish I had a supportive family who lived nearby so I could have more children and be less stressed out.

You are so blessed. <3

Amber, theAmberShow | 3:01 PM

I was hoping they would be two sisters. The "surrounded by sisters" line has stuck with me since you first mentioned that he said it, and I love picturing that!

Anabelle | 3:02 PM

Congratulations!!! Girls are pearls (but good luck for your boy and your man ;-) four girls in the house instead of two is definitely going to be a difference!! :D

Erin | 3:09 PM

Congratulations! I'm sure you're coming up with lots of unique girls' names. How about Mary Kate and Ashley? Cute AND original, no?

-EMK

Liz | 3:21 PM

CONGRATS!!!!!
Sisters are the best!

Allison the Meep | 3:29 PM

Wow!! A total ladyfest up in there! So excited for you.

This is going to sound stupid, but I'm going to go ahead and risk that and ask my question: Are they able to tell by an ultrasound if the twins are fraternal or identical? I'm a total genius when it comes to making fart jokes, but not so much with knowing this type of thing.

Abi | 3:30 PM

Of course Archer is right. :)

Sydney | 3:32 PM

Oooh Ooooh Ooooh - Does this mean you can share the name you had picked out for a boy, since you won't be using it anymore?

I would love to hear it.

Lindsay | 3:58 PM

So, I agree about hearing your boy names anyway... But then again, maybe there will someday be baby #5?

This is the boy/girl ratios on my family. I'm the oldest girl, then I have a younger sister, a younger brother, and another younger sister. My brother wanted a little brother, but he was raised around three sisters and turned out just fine.

Congratulations!

whoorl | 4:10 PM

That Archer is one cool cat. Congratulations! Such incredible news!

Jack's Mama | 4:31 PM

My twin sister is my best friend! It is an amazing bond. In high school i always dreamed or having a cool older sister and/or brother, your twins will be so lucky!

I can't wait to hear the names. You can even spill your boy name if you like! My name is Leah and my sisters name is Sarah. Leah & Sarah, Sarah & Leah, my mom liked the way they sounded together.

My parents actually knew I (twin B) was going to be a girl. But they couldn't get a good view of my sister (twin A), so she was a surprise. Sarah was their first choice girl name hah so I got the second choice Leah but i like it, it has become more common but in the 80s Sarah was super popular so I liked that I didn't have to share my name with other girls in our class.

Congrats!!

emily bilbrey | 4:31 PM

wonderful news! and you know what's fun - i guessed right! (-; many happy congrats, mama!! i can't wait to see what's next for you, your THREE ladies, and your amazing son. xoxo!

Stef | 5:35 PM

Yay! Congrats! Congrats! Congrats! WWW better get to work cranking out those adorable dresses!

Brooke | 6:18 PM

Oh now I just can't wait for their names : )

Elizabeth | 6:25 PM

congratulations! just think of all of the fashion posts you'll have to do. girl clothes are the cutest!!

i love thinking of archer as the grand protector. what a sweet boy.

Anonymous | 6:34 PM

I agree with Girl, maybe you can save your boy name for baby #5 next time...then you would have a girl sandwich (boy, girl, girl, girl, boy). And because I have a dirty mind I thought of roast beef sandwiches just now. :-x

Anyway I am so excited for you and I can just imagine you looking beautiful when you give birth. September/October can't come fast enough and that is coming from a stranger! That would be funny if they were born on Fable's birthday...OK I will shut up now as I am going crazy with random thoughts for GGC.

rachel | 6:44 PM

Yay! Twin girls are the best! My son at 2 guessed he'd have two sisters as well - no one else thought so; but somehow he just knew... wise little guys for sure. I thought maybe I 'wanted' b/g twins; but now that I have two girls who can be best friends and my son who can be my number one boy, I know I got exactly what I needed. You look amazing, healthy and happy. I continue to be so happy for you.

doahleigh | 7:22 PM

Yay! I was wrong but yay!

Anonymous | 7:23 PM

Girls are the best! Super congrats!

Sarah | 7:30 PM

I knew Archer was on to them the whole time!

It is amazing how much that baby already looks like Fable. Love the idea of two more!

agirlandaboy | 7:53 PM

You are pretty much the best person I can think of to raise up more wonderful girls for the world. Congratulations again (and again, and again).

Joann | 8:40 PM

Woot woot for girls!!! literally jumping for joy as I voted with the Archer for twin girl! yay! Take care always.

marlene | 9:41 PM

This is so awesome!!!!! These two girls are loved so much already. Thanks for letting us follow your adventure :)

Pam | 11:00 PM

Holy shit! I leave the blog reading world for a few months and I come back to twins! This is fucking incredible! So very happy for the four of you, soon to be six! Arch you the man big brother!
Abso-fuckin-loutly Awesome!

Jaimey | 11:07 PM

congrats!!! I am 22 weeks with a boy, my 4th boy... wanna trade a girl for a boy?! :)

Flannery | 11:32 PM

Yes! Two more girls to style! (Not that Archer isn't totally dapper but girls get to wear dresses and accessories!)

And of course some pressing questions re: names. Are you already working on a second girls' name? What was the boy name you and Hal came up with? Will you possibly drop hints about the names before birth?

Anonymous | 12:09 AM

Agirlandaboy is right. There is nobody I have ever known in any way other than you that would undoubtedly raise great people. I wish you could raise all of the planet's children for the sake of humanity. I have never been more positively shocked at a five year old's words than Archer's. Your children are the luckiest and most blessed and thank you for sharing them with us.

Boston Mamas | 5:31 AM

Tears of joy for you luv -- congrats!

Oh, also, if it's helpful, feel free to glean ideas from when I queried for girl's names -- tons of options there! http://www.bostonmamas.com/2011/01/we_need_a_girls_name.html

xoxox

Megan | 9:06 AM

Twin girls! Awesome! Congrats to you and your family!

Rachel | 10:18 AM

I'm back to say that I'm really proud of you for writing (and believing) "three strong girls." I have worked in preschools and try to limit using "gender specific" characteristics with small children. Boys and girls both need to hear they are strong, smart/clever, creative, etc., and be praised when they use kind words/actions!!

Raina | 10:35 AM

Have them check again in a few weeks. My doctor was 98% sure I was having a girl. He was wrong! I'm glad I didn't buy too many pink things!

Elliesee | 11:02 AM

Congratulations from a mom of four girls, including twin girls. I have a lot of fun dressing them in a subtle matching way, so I am sure you will too!

Alex | 11:08 AM

House full of girls! Yay!

Caitlyn | 11:45 AM

OMG! Congratulations! I bet Archer's excited :) I'm so jealous

Heather Bauer | 1:49 PM

What an incredible adventure!!! Thank you so much for letting us follow along. GIRLS!!! So exciting!!!

Pretzel Thief | 8:29 PM

Aaaaiiiiiiiieeeeee, congratulations!!! Archer is indeed a sage...amazing. Wishing you and the fam continued health, safety, joy and peace during this wonderful pregnancy!

lemonbombs | 9:36 PM

Twin B does really look like Fable, as well as Archer and her daddy, through the jawline. AMAZING.

Those three little ladies are going to rule their world, and Archer will make sure they do it right!

Blessings, mama!

beyond | 2:49 AM

two girls, congrats! archer is so intuitive... (i was right, too!)

Mrs. Q. | 6:09 AM

YIPPEEEEE! I knew it. Archer is going to be the best big brother! Congratulations.

Valentina | 1:47 PM

For the first time on this blog and to be welcomed with such great news - congratulations!
BTW, my mother-in-law used to say that lucky moms have daughters (don't know if it's true or she was saying it just to annoy me - I have 2 boys)

Erin | 5:53 AM

My father is the oldest of 4 children, and brother to three sisters. He is now the father to 2daughters, and is a wonderfully sensitive and caring person. It's good to be surrounded by girls - so he says!

Spumoni | 7:36 AM

Congrats! I voted for two girls, but only because my twins are girls. Enjoy every moment... YAY for all of you! xoxo

Lou Lou Belle | 9:43 AM

hooray! as a lady twin with a twin sister, I can say this will be a wonderful wonderful arrangement!!!!!!!!!!!

Chicago Mom (Heather) | 11:51 AM

I hope they're identical!! That would be SO COOl. :-)

Michelle B | 12:18 PM

Congratulations Rebecca! Twins are wonderful! I'm so happy for you and your family.
I have twin boys, you may remember us, we used to go to Ceci's (your old neighbor in Windsor Square). We moved to Iowa in January.
What a blessing!
Best,

"Three daughters and a sage for a son who will guide and protect them as he does me (and everyone else)."

^^BEAUTIFUL!

Congrats on adding two more daughters into your family! 2011 is just the year for girls. =D Everyone I know had girls this year, for the exception of my cousin's wife (who's having a boy).

Carrie | 12:34 PM

Wonderful news! I'm also having a daughter this September and I've always been terrified to have a girl. You're such a great example of how really, really great it can be.
